Janet Finch-Saunders MS has welcomed bespoke cost-of-living support from the UK Government for vulnerable households.
The Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy has given her support to measures aimed to help those in differing circumstances, who may not have been eligible for other support measures.
The UK Government’s Energy Bills Support Scheme has provided relief for millions. It is delivering a £400 non-repayable government discount in instalments over six months from October to March to help 29 million households with energy bills over the winter.
However, the scheme has not been able to reach some 900,000 households in the UK without a domestic energy supply. Therefore, the UK Government introduced the Energy Prices Bill on 12th October.
The scheme will open for applications in Great Britain in January 2023.The exact date that an eligible household will receive support will depend on when the application is made and when the payment can be processed by the relevant Local Authority.
Speaking today, Janet said:
“Putin’s barbaric invasion of Ukraine has sent energy prices soaring across the country, threatening to drive up bills and drive down thermostats in the winter ahead.
“That’s why, even as we work to secure our energy supply for the future, we have to act now to keep homes warm this winter.
“These measures won’t just support people in terraced houses or tenement flats – they will support concerned constituents in caravans too.
“These measures will help to deliver the Energy Bills Support Scheme Alternative Funding, providing £400 to these households and ensuring that they do not miss out. No one can be left in the cold.
Mae Janet Finch-Saunders AS wedi croesawu cymorth pwrpasol i aelwydydd bregus tuag at gostau byw, gan Lywodraeth y DU.
Mae AS Aberconwy wedi rhoi cefnogaeth i fesurau i geisio helpu'r rhai mewn amgylchiadau gwahanol, na fyddent o bosib yn gymwys am fesurau cymorth eraill.
Mae Cynllun Cymorth Biliau Ynni Llywodraeth y DU wedi rhoi rhyddhad i filiynau. Mae'n darparu gostyngiad y llywodraeth o £400 (nad oes angen ei ad-dalu) fesul tipyn dros chwe mis o fis Hydref i fis Mawrth, er mwyn helpu 29 miliwn o aelwydydd gyda’u biliau ynni dros y gaeaf.
Ond dyw'r cynllun ddim wedi llwyddo i gyrraedd tua 900,000 o gartrefi yn y DU heb gyflenwad ynni domestig. Felly, cyflwynwyd Bil Prisiau Ynni gan Lywodraeth y DU ar 12 Hydref.
Bydd y cynllun yn agor ar gyfer ceisiadau yng ngwledydd Prydain ym mis Ionawr 2023. Bydd yr union ddyddiad y bydd aelwydydd cymwys yn cael cymorth yn dibynnu ar pryd y gwneir y cais a phryd fydd yr Awdurdod Lleol perthnasol yn gallu prosesu'r taliad.
Wrth siarad heddiw, dywedodd Janet:
“Mae ymosodiad barbaraidd Putin ar Wcráin wedi anfon prisiau ynni drwy'r to, gan fygwth biliau ynni uwch a gorfodi pobl i droi'r thermostat i lawr y gaeaf hwn.
“Dyna pam mae'n rhaid i ni weithredu nawr i gadw cartrefi'n gynnes y gaeaf hwn, wrth inni weithio i sicrhau ein cyflenwad ynni i'r dyfodol.
"Bydd y mesurau hyn yn cefnogi mwy na phobl mewn tai teras neu fflatiau daliadol yn unig - byddan nhw'n helpu etholwyr pryderus mewn carafanau hefyd.
“Bydd y mesurau hyn yn helpu i ddarparu Cyllid Amgen y Cynllun Cymorth Biliau Ynni, gan ddarparu £400 i'r aelwydydd hyn a sicrhau nad ydyn nhw ar eu colled. Ddylai neb gael eu hanwybyddu.
