Janet Finch-Saunders, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, has welcomed the decision by the Chancellor of the Exchequer, the Right Honourable Jeremy Hunt MP, to provide the Welsh Government with around an additional £1.2 billion over 2023-24 and 2024-25.

The extra funding was announced alongside a targeted package of support for the most vulnerable, measures to get debt and government borrowing down, and a promise to provide up to £10m funding for the Advance Technology Research Centre, a defence-focussed Centre of Excellence Site in Wales (subject to a business case).

Commenting on the Autumn Statement, Janet said:

“I am pleased that the Chancellor has taken action to help deliver economic stability and sustainable public services across the UK.

“Decisive action has been taken to support the people of Wales, including increasing pensions and benefits in line with inflation next year and providing the Welsh Government with £1.2 billion in additional funding over the next two years.

“Let’s hope that the Barnett consequentials for Wales are used in the areas of policy spend that they have in fact received the additional funding for. Sadly, this has not always been the case hence the shortfalls we are now facing in some public services here.

“You can be sure that I, as part of the Welsh Conservatives opposition, will be scrutinising and indeed challenging the Welsh Government on their use of all the funds coming to Wales”.

ENDS

Mae Janet Finch-Saunders, Aelod o’r Senedd dros Aberconwy, wedi croesawu penderfyniad Canghellor y Trysorlys, y Gwir Anrhydeddus Jeremy Hunt AS, i ddarparu oddeutu £1.2 biliwn ychwanegol i Lywodraeth Cymru dros 2023-24 a 2024-25.

Cyhoeddwyd y cyllid ychwanegol law yn llaw â phecyn cymorth wedi’i dargedu ar gyfer y mwyaf bregus, mesurau i ostwng dyledion a benthyciadau, ac addewid i ddarparu hyd at £10 miliwn o gyllid i’r Ganolfan Ymchwil Uwch Dechnoleg, Safle Canolfan Ragoriaeth yn canolbwyntio ar amddiffyn yng Nghymru (yn amodol ar achos busnes).

Gan roi ei sylwadau ar Ddatganiad yr Hydref, dywedodd Janet:

“Rwy’n falch bod y Canghellor wedi cymryd camau i helpu i sicrhau sefydlogrwydd economaidd a gwasanaethau cyhoeddus cynaliadwy ledled y DU.

“Mae’n amlwg bod camau pendant wedi’u cymryd i gefnogi pobl Cymru, gan gynnwys cynyddu pensiynau a budd-daliadau yn unol â chwyddiant y flwyddyn nesaf a darparu £1.2 biliwn i Lywodraeth Cymru mewn cyllid ychwanegol dros y ddwy flynedd nesaf.

“Gobeithio y bydd arian Barnett i Gymru yn cael ei ddefnyddio yn y meysydd gwariant ar bolisi y maen nhw wedi derbyn y cyllid ychwanegol ar eu cyfer. Yn anffodus, nid yw hyn wastad wedi bod yn wir a dyna pam ein bod yn wynebu diffygion mewn rhai gwasanaethau cyhoeddus yma.

“Gallwch fod yn siŵr y byddaf innau, fel rhan o wrthblaid y Ceidwadwyr Cymreig, yn craffu ar Lywodraeth Cymru ac yn ei herio ar ei defnydd o’r holl gronfeydd sy’n dod i Gymru.”
