West Shore/ Deganwy

Janet Finch-Saunders, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, is calling on residents and visitors to be extra vigilant when enjoying the beach at West Shore, Llandudno.

Her public plea comes after the Llandudno Coastal Rescue Team and RNLI Conwy were recently called out to reports of several people cut off on the West Shore sandbanks.

Commenting on the need for everybody using the beach to be careful, Janet said:

The West Shore sandbanks are extremely dangerous, with the rapidly rising tide having caught several people and left them stranded.

“We are fortunate to have selfless individuals in both the Llandudno Coastal Rescue Team and RNLI who play key roles in rescuing people caught out, however all beach users must take individual responsibility also by keeping an eye out for the tide.

“If you see anyone in distress or danger in West Shore please call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.

“By all of us making an active decision to be mindful of the tide, we could reduce the risk to our lives and those who selflessly put their lives on the line when a rescue is required”.

Mae Janet Finch-Saunders, Aelod o’r Senedd dros Aberconwy, yn galw ar breswylwyr ac ymwelwyr i fod yn wyliadwrus iawn wrth fwynhau ar Draeth Penmorfa, Llandudno.

Daw ei phle cyhoeddus ar ôl i Dîm Achub Arfordirol Llandudno ac RNLI Conwy gael eu galw allan yn ddiweddar i adroddiadau fod llawer o bobl wedi’u hynysu ar draethellau Traeth Penmorfa.

Yn rhoi sylwadau ar yr angen i bawb sy’n defnyddio’r traeth fod yn ofalus, dywedodd Janet:

Mae traethellau Traeth Penmorfa yn beryglus iawn, gyda’r llanw yn codi’n gyflym ac yn dal llawer o bobl heb ffordd o ddychwelyd i’r glannau.

“Rydym yn ffodus iawn o gael unigolion sy’n gweithio’n ddiflino yn Nhîm Achub Arfordirol Llandudno a’r RNLI sydd â rolau allweddol wrth achub pobl sy’n cael eu dal gan y llanw, ond mae’n rhaid i bawb sy’n defnyddio’r traeth fod yn bersonol gyfrifol drwy gadw llygad ar y llanw.

“Os ydych chi’n gweld unrhyw un mewn trallod neu berygl ar Draeth Penmorfa, ffoniwch 999 a gofynnwch am Wylwyr y Glannau.

“Pe bai pawb yn gwneud penderfyniad pwrpasol i fod yn ymwybodol o’r llanw, gallem leihau’r perygl i’n bywydau ni ac i’r rhai sy’n mentro eu bywydau os oes angen achub rhywun.”
