Janet Finch-Saunders MS has spoken in anger at the eye watering monthly running costs of the Welsh Government’s buildings in Llandudno Junction.
Having challenged Rebecca Evans MS, Minister for Finance and Local Government, the Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy has disclosed that the average monthly running costs for the Llandudno Junction office for the 2020/21 and 2021/22 financial years are as follows:
- 2020/21 - £136,895
- 2021/22 - £130,967
The Member for Aberconwy has had a long running campaign which has seen her disclose that the complex which cost around £23 million of tax payers’ pounds to build, despite having just over 390 people contracted to work there, recorded an average daily attendance level of 18 people last September.
Commenting on the running costs, Janet said:
“The figures mean that around £1.6m was spent on running costs in 2020/21 and £1.5m in 2021/22, a time that saw hybrid working and as little as 18 people attending the buildings daily!
“It is scandalous that buildings which have already cost tax payers around £23m, are draining around £130,000 from the public purse every month.
“It is well known locally that the complex is underutilised despite several requested by me for the creation of a flexible working hub.
“A business could not get away with running like this, so why should the Welsh Government?
“During a cost-of-living crisis, it is extremely distressing to constituents and local businesses to see the mammoth amount of money squandered by the Welsh Government on its white elephant”.

Written Question to Rebecca Evans MS, Minister for Finance and Local Government
Will the Minister share the average monthly running cost, for the previous two financial years separately, for the Welsh Government building in Llandudno Junction?
Response from the Minister:
“The average monthly running costs for the Llandudno Junction office for the 2020/21 and 2021/22 financial years is as follows
2020/21 - £136,895
2021/22 - £130,967”
Mae Janet Finch-Saunders AS wedi siarad yn flin am gostau rhedeg misol syfrdanol adeiladau Llywodraeth Cymru yng Nghyffordd Llandudno.
Ar ôl herio Rebecca Evans AS, y Gweinidog Cyllid a Llywodraeth Leol, mae’r Aelod o’r Senedd dros Aberconwy wedi datgelu bod y costau rhedeg misol cyfartalog ar gyfer swyddfa Cyffordd Llandudno ym mlynyddoedd ariannol 2020/21 a 2021/22 fel a ganlyn:
- 2020/21 - £136,895
- 2021/22 - £130,967
Mae’r Aelod dros Aberconwy wedi ymgyrchu ers tro ar hyn gan ddatgelu bod yr adeilad, a gostiodd tua £23 miliwn o arian y trethdalwyr i’w adeiladu, wedi cofnodi lefel presenoldeb dyddiol o 18 o bobl fis Medi diwethaf, er bod dros 390 o bobl wedi’u contractio i weithio yno.
Wrth sôn am y costau rhedeg, meddai Janet:
“Mae’r ffigurau’n golygu bod tua £1.6 miliwn wedi’i wario ar gostau rhedeg yn 2020/21 a £1.5 miliwn yn 2021/22, ar adeg lle’r oedd gweithio hybrid mewn grym a chyn lleied â 18 o bobl yn mynychu’r adeilad bob dydd!
“Mae’n sgandal bod adeiladau sydd eisoes wedi costio tua £23 miliwn i drethdalwyr yn draenio tua £130,000 o’r pwrs cyhoeddus bob mis.
“Mae pobl leol yn gwybod bod yr adeilad yn cael ei danddefnyddio er gwaethaf sawl cais gen i i greu hyb gweithio hyblyg.
“Fyddai busnes ddim yn cael rhwydd hynt i weithredu fel hyn, felly pam ddylai Llywodraeth Cymru?
“Yn ystod argyfwng costau byw, mae gweld Llywodraeth Cymru yn gwastraffu swm aruthrol o arian ar ei heliffant gwyn yn achosi pryder mawr i etholwyr a busnesau lleol”.
