Calls to Unleash Llandudno Hospital’s Potential / Galwadau i wireddu potensial Ysbyty Llandudno

Llandudno Hospital

Following a visit to Llandudno Hospital where Janet Finch-Saunders MS met with Consultant Surgeon Graham Whiteley, his team, and other medical professionals, the Member for Aberconwy has made further calls for Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board and Eluned Morgan MS, Minister for Health and Social Services, Welsh Government, to “unleash Llandudno Hospital’s potential”.

Mrs Finch-Saunders has long campaigned for more services and responsibilities to be given to Llandudno Hospital, and delighted to see:

  • The Bridging Service trial undertaken at the Aberconwy ward;
  • And the operating theatre reopen.

Commenting after her visit to the hospital, Janet said:

“I would like to thank all the team at Betsi Cadwaladr for giving me their time at Llandudno Hospital. They are truly inspirational people and give me reason for hope.

“I have maintained for years that our local health facility is underutilised and has the potential to reduce pressure on the three major hospitals in North Wales.  From listening to those who work on the ground this week my view has been reinforced.

“What we need to see is the Health Board leadership and Minister for Health and Social Services take decisive action to unleash Llandudno Hospital’s potential.

“What greater sign of lack of priority given to our local hospital than the disclosure to me that there is a second theatre, but that it has sat unused since before the pandemic because it needs a ventilation system. Well, one should be fitted as a matter of urgency!

“Other problems found during my visit were faulty air-conditioning units, an unreliable lift, and lack of patient referrals to Llandudno.

“It makes no sense to place the major burden of waiting lists on Glan Clwyd, Gwynedd, and Wrexham, when staff want to and could provide more treatment in Llandudno.

“I have the political will to see more treatment provided at Llandudno, I believe that staff want to see more treatment provided at Llandudno, and I have reason to hope that the Health Board just might be listening and that a surprise may be round the corner! The simple fact remains that the hospital is massively underused and is capable of providing quality and safe treatment. I will continue to challenge the Health Board and the Welsh Government to ensure that more services are provided at Llandudno District General Hospital”

Yn dilyn ymweliad ag Ysbyty Llandudno lle bu Janet Finch-Saunders AS yn siarad â’r Llawfeddyg Ymgynghorol Graham Whiteley, ei dîm, a gweithwyr meddygol proffesiynol eraill, mae’r Aelod dros Aberconwy wedi galw eto ar Fwrdd Iechyd Prifysgol Betsi Cadwaladr ac Eluned Morgan AS, y Gweinidog Iechyd a Gwasanaethau Cymdeithasol, Llywodraeth Cymru i ”wireddu potensial Ysbyty Llandudno”.

Mae Mrs Finch-Saunders wedi bod yn ymgyrchu dros ragor o wasanaethau a chyfrifoldebau i Ysbyty Llandudno ers tro, ac roedd hi’n falch iawn o weld:

  • Y Gwasanaeth Pontio peilot a gynhaliwyd yn ward Aberconwy;
  • Ac ailagor y theatr llawdriniaeth.

Wrth roi sylwadau ar ôl ei hymweliad â’r ysbyty, dywedodd Janet:

“Hoffwn ddiolch i’r holl dîm yn Betsi Cadwaladr am roi o’u hamser i mi yn Ysbyty Llandudno. Maen nhw’n bobl wirioneddol ysbrydoledig ac yn rhoi gobaith i rywun.

“Rwyf wedi dweud ers blynyddoedd nad ydym yn defnyddio digon ar ein cyfleuster iechyd lleol a bod y potensial yno i ysgafnhau’r pwysau ar y tri phrif ysbyty yn y Gogledd. O wrando ar y rhai sy’n gweithio ar lawr gwlad yr wythnos hon, mae hynny wedi cadarnhau fy marn.

“Yr hyn sydd ei angen arnom ni yw gweld arweinwyr y Bwrdd Iechyd a’r Gweinidog Iechyd a Gwasanaethau Cymdeithasol yn cymryd camau pendant i wireddu potensial Ysbyty Llandudno.

“Pa well arwydd o’r diffyg blaenoriaeth a roddir i’n hysbyty lleol na datgelu i mi fod ail theatr yno, ond ei bod wedi bod yn segur ers cyn y pandemig gan fod angen system awyru yno. Felly, dylid gosod un fel mater o frys!

“Problemau eraill a welwyd yn ystod fy ymweliad oedd unedau aerdymheru diffygiol, lifft annibynadwy, a diffyg cyfeirio cleifion i Landudno.

“Dyw hi ddim yn gwneud synnwyr o gwbl i roi baich mawr ar restr aros Glan Clwyd, Gwynedd a Wrecsam, pan fo staff am gynnig mwy o driniaethau yn Llandudno.

“Mae’r ewyllys gwleidyddol gen i i weld mwy o driniaethau’n cael eu darparu yn Llandudno, rwy’n credu bod staff am weld mwy o driniaethau yn Llandudno, ac mae gen i reswm i obeithio y gallai’r Bwrdd Iechyd wrando ac y gallai newyddion da fod ar y gorwel! Y ffaith syml yw nad yw’r ysbyty yn cael ei ddefnyddio’n ddigonol o bell ffordd a gallai ddarparu triniaethau diogel o safon. Byddaf yn dal ati i herio’r Bwrdd Iechyd a Llywodraeth Cymru i sicrhau bod mwy o wasanaethau’n cael eu darparu yn Ysbyty Cyffredinol Llandudno.”
