On good care week, Janet Finch-Saunders MS is calling for the Welsh Government to respond immediately to reports of people receiving care in rural areas of Aberconwy having their packages dropped. It is now believed that 9 people in rural areas within Aberconwy have had care packages dropped, placing undue stress and anxiety on those individuals, and their friends and families.

Commenting on these latest developments, Janet said.

“I am deeply concerned about the future of sustainable care packages here in Aberconwy. It is vitally important that people have the choice between staying at home or going into residential care.

“This is why, I’m calling for the Welsh Government to cooperate with Conwy County Borough Council to commission an emergency care team for people whose packages are dropped, so that they can continue to be looked after at home with ease, instead of being essentially forced into a care home.”

Commenting further, Janet added.

“The Welsh Government have unfortunately dithered and delayed in enacting meaningful reform to care in Wales.

“Taking the decision of moving a relative into a care or nursing home can already be challenging and difficult for all involved.

“This shocking situation in Conwy County, which is seeing elderly and sometimes vulnerable individuals pulled away from their social network of family and friends, is of considerable concern and requires immediate action from the Local Authority and Welsh Government.

“Every individual should have the opportunity to receive the social care they require whilst remaining within reach of their family and friends.”

CYMRAEG:

Yn wythnos gofal da, mae Janet Finch-Saunders yn galw ar Lywodraeth Cymru i ymateb yn syth i adroddiadau bod pecynnau pobl sy'n derbyn gofal mewn ardaloedd gwledig yn cael eu dileu. Credir bellach fod pecynnau 8-9 o bobl mewn ardaloedd gwledig yn Aberconwy wedi cael eu dileu, gan roi straen a phryder diangen ar deulu a ffrindiau.

Wrth sôn am y datblygiadau diweddaraf hyn, dywedodd Janet:

“Rwy'n pryderu'n fawr am ddyfodol pecynnau gofal cynaliadwy yma yng Nghymru. Mae'n hollbwysig bod pobl yn cael dewis rhwng aros gartref neu fynd i mewn i ofal preswyl.”

“Dyma pam rwy'n galw ar awdurdodau lleol i gomisiynu tîm gofal brys ar gyfer pobl y mae eu pecynnau'n cael eu dileu, fel y gallan nhw barhau i dderbyn gofal gartref yn rhwydd, yn hytrach na chael eu rhoi mewn cartref.”

Ychwanegodd Janet:

“Yn anffodus, mae Llywodraeth Cymru wedi petruso ac oedi cyn gweithredu diwygiadau ystyrlon i ofal yng Nghymru.”

“Mae penderfynu symud perthynas i gartref gofal neu nyrsio yn heriol ac yn anodd eisoes i bawb sy'n rhan o'r penderfyniad hwnnw.”

“Mae'r sefyllfa frawychus hon, lle mae unigolion oedrannus ac agored i niwed yn cael eu tynnu oddi wrth eu rhwydwaith cymdeithasol o deulu a ffrindiau, yn peri cryn bryder ac mae angen i Lywodraeth Cymru weithredu ar unwaith.

“Mae tanariannu a chamreoli wedi cael effaith andwyol ar ein system gofal cymdeithasol ers llawer gormod o amser.

“Mae'n bryd i Lywodraeth Cymru gamu i'r adwy a chymryd y camau cadarn sydd eu hangen yn syth i fynd i'r afael â'r sefyllfa hon.

“Dylai pob unigolyn gael cyfle i dderbyn y gofal cymdeithasol sydd ei angen arno, gan aros o fewn cyrraedd teulu a ffrindiau.”
