Disappointment that council offices are sitting almost empty / Siom bod swyddfeydd y cyngor yn parhau’n wag

Disappointment that council offices are sitting empty

It has been reported that both Bodlondeb and Conwy’s new £58 million Coed Pella office remain empty as the vast majority of council officers continue to utilise the Local Authority’s hybrid working policy which allows staff to work flexibly from home.

Although Welsh Government guidance now allows for workers to return to the office, it is reported that certain roles within the authority will now by hybrid by default.

Commenting on the matter Janet said:

“As we learn to live with Covid-19 it is critical that council officers and councillors return to the council offices. This new council administration is sending the complete wrong message by having its office buildings closed and not welcoming residents. Rather constituents are faced with long telephone queues and difficulties in reaching officers who are working at home.

“It is also scandalous that this administration continues to spend taxpayers’ money on these two large buildings when there appear to only be a handful of officers working there. I have social care packages being withdrawn from rural communities while Conwy’s £58 million office stands almost empty. This is not an effective use of public money.

“I would implore the new Cabinet of Conwy County Borough Council to review it policy and see workers and councillors return to Bodlondeb and Coed Pella, opening these offices to the public once again and showing our community how we can live with COVID-19.”

Yn ôl pob sôn mae Bodlondeb a swyddfa newydd gwerth £58 miliwn Conwy, Coed Pella, yn parhau’n wag wrth i’r mwyafrif llethol o swyddogion y cyngor fanteisio ar bolisi gweithio’n hybrid yr Awdurdod Lleol sy’n galluogi staff i weithio’n hyblyg o gartref.

Er bod canllawiau Llywodraeth Cymru bellach yn caniatáu i weithwyr ddychwelyd i’r swyddfa, dywedir bod rolau penodol o fewn yr awdurdod yn rhai hybrid yn bennaf bellach.

Gan roi ei sylwadau ar y mater, dywedodd Janet:

“Wrth i ni ddysgu byw gyda Covid-19, mae’n hollbwysig bod swyddogion y cyngor a chynghorwyr yn dychwelyd i swyddfeydd y cyngor. Mae gweinyddiaeth y cyngor newydd yn anfon neges gwbl amhriodol drwy gau ei swyddfeydd, ac yn ddigroeso i breswylwyr. Yn sgil hynny, mae etholwyr yn gorfod wynebu ciwiau ffôn hir ac anawsterau wrth gael gafael ar swyddogion sy’n gweithio gartref.

“Mae hefyd yn warthus bod y weinyddiaeth hon yn parhau i wario arian trethdalwyr ar y ddau adeilad mawr yma gyda dim ond llond llaw o weithwyr yn gweithio yno. Rwy’n gweld pecynnau gofal cymdeithasol yn cael eu tynnu yn ôl o gymunedau gwledig tra bod swyddfa £58 miliwn Conwy yn wag bron iawn. Defnydd cwbl aneffeithiol o arian cyhoeddus.

“Rwy’n erfyn ar Gabinet newydd Cyngor Bwrdeistref Sirol Conwy i adolygu ei bolisi ac annog gweithwyr a chynghorwyr i ddychwelyd i Bodlondeb a Choed Pella, gan agor y swyddfeydd hyn i’r cyhoedd unwaith eto a dangos i’n cymuned sut y gallwn fyw gyda COVID-19.”
