Last Saturday morning, residents saw further chaos on Transport for Wales trains as they travelled down for the Wales V Belgium football game in Cardiff. Reports showed that a train running from Holyhead to Cardiff had only two carriages and was already full by 11:10am at Bangor.

Commenting on the incident, Janet said.

“Our transport network is worlds behind other countries in Europe and Asia. The events of last Saturday echo those of which I experienced on the 28th of March. As people seek to connect more with others across the country it’s vital, they have the means to do so. They should not have to endure cramped carriages and outdated trains.”

Commenting further, Janet said.

“The announcement of the Anglesey to Cardiff Air Link being cancelled demonstrates the back to front approach the Welsh Government have in infrastructure strategy. Tax payers money will rightly be saved by cancelling the air link, but residents now have no option but to use the trains to travel between North and South, and they remain completely unfit for purpose.

“We need to see more services, increased capacity and the immediate role out of brand-new train models, so as to take TfW into the modern era. By achieving these, we can encourage more people to travel on public transport and as we face a climate crisis, this is vital.

“It’s worth reminding ourselves that after 22 years in government, the problems we see today are Welsh Labour made problems.

During her plenary contribution on the 14th of June, Janet requested that the Minister for Climate Change make a statement on the possibility of having an upper limit on the number of customers permitted to travel on board a train. It is her contention that this would force the hand of TfW to provide carriages and services that a fit for purpose..
