Janet Finch-Saunders MS/AS today welcomes the news that work to refurbish and reopen Dolgarrog pipe bridge in the Conwy Valley is set to get underway next month thanks to a £1.9million investment. Originally closed in January 2021, following significant concerns about the condition of the bridge, after a successful campaign lead by the Member of the Welsh Parliament and the community, Welsh Water committed to working with stakeholders and partners to carry out improvement and safety work to the structure so the bridge could once again reopen to the public.
Commenting on the latest news, Janet said,
“I’m pleased to learn that work will begin on the Dolgarrog Pipe Bridge following its closure over significant concerns about the condition. It’s reassuring to know that Welsh Water has been proactive in responding to the stakeholders group I chair, and are now ready to deliver the repairs needed.”
Alongside the £1.2million investment by Welsh Water to strengthen and improve the bridge, a £735,000 Welsh Government grant for Conwy County Borough Council has been secured to create an active travel route across the historical bridge.
Welsh Water has been working closely with Janet Finch-Saunders MS/AS as well as Conwy County Borough Council, Network Rail and Transport for Wales, to coordinate plans to ensure this major investment brings widespread benefits to the area.
Commenting further, Janet says,
“It has long been a commitment of mine to improve the infostructure and connectivity of Aberconwy and North Wales with the rest of the country. Whether this is delivering on major new train services or bus routes or even to restoring bridges such as the Dolgarrog, it’s issues such as this which are felt the most by locals.”

Ar ôl ei chau gyntaf ym mis Ionawr 2021, yn sgil pryderon mawr am gyflwr y bont, ar ôl ymgyrch lwyddiannus dan arweiniad yr Aelod o’r Senedd a’r gymuned, ymrwymodd Dŵr Cymru i weithio gyda rhanddeiliaid a phartneriaid i wneud gwaith gwella a diogelwch i’r strwythur er mwyn gallu ailagor y bont i’r cyhoedd unwaith eto.
Wrth roi sylwadau ar y newyddion diweddaraf, dywedodd Janet:
“Rwy’n falch o glywed y bydd gwaith yn dechrau ar Bont Dolgarrog ar ôl ei chau yn sgil pryderon mawr am ei chyflwr. Mae’n codi calon rhywun gwybod bod Dŵr Cymru wedi bod wrthi’n rhagweithiol yn ymateb i’r grŵp rhanddeiliaid rwy’n ei gadeirio, ac yn barod bellach i gyflawni’r atgyweiriadau sydd eu hangen.”
Law yn llaw â’r buddsoddiad o £1.2 miliwn gan Dŵr Cymru i gryfhau a gwella’r bont, mae grant o £735,000 gan Lywodraeth Cymru wedi’i sicrhau gan Gyngor Bwrdeistref Sirol Conwy i greu llwybr teithio llesol dros y bont hanesyddol.
Mae Dŵr Cymru wedi bod y gweithio’n agos gyda Janet Finch-Saunders AS ynghyd â Chyngor Bwrdeistref Sirol Conwy, Network Rail a Thrafnidiaeth Cymru, i gydlynu cynlluniau i sicrhau bod y buddsoddiad pwysig hwn yn arwain at fanteision eang yn yr ardal.
Wrth roi sylwadau pellach, dywedodd Janet:
“Mae gwella seilwaith a chysylltedd Aberconwy a’r Gogledd gyda gweddill y wlad wedi bod yn ymrwymiad i mi ers tro. Boed hyn drwy ddarparu gwasanaethau trên newydd neu lwybrau bws neu hyd yn oed adfer pontydd fel Dolgarrog, problemau fel hyn sy’n cael eu teimlo fwyaf gan bobl leol.”
