Having previously written to Mr Geraint Edwards, Head of Environment, Roads and Facilities (ERF) at Conwy County Borough Council (CCBC) and held site meetings with officials to raise her concerns regarding this public highway, the Member of the Welsh Parliament, Janet Finch-Saunders, has again written to ERF again
Commenting on the matter Janet said:
“As a founding member of the Friends of Queens Park, and having secured funding for the park’s playground facilities as well as previously serving as a Town and County Councillor for Craig-y-Don I am well aware of the importance of this public highway.
“Queen’s Road is a strategically important highway within our community, providing a direct route from the A470 to our world famous promenade, along with servicing as a popular bus route and connecting significant residential areas of our town. Given this, it is vital that proper measures are taken to ensure that all road users are properly protected at all times.
“While I was pleased to undertake site meetings with council officials and to have raised this issue with Mr Edwards previously, I am disappointed to see that the steps taken by the council has only resulted in a small island being installed at this location. It is evident that much greater works are required to ensure proper road safety.
“As such, I have once again written to ERF to highlight my concerns regarding the speed of traffic along this road, the potential blockage of the road by parked vehicles and the impact of both on the safety of pedestrians attempting to cross this public highway. In my correspondence I have urged ERF to consider further traffic calming and road safety measures, including the installation of a Zebra crossing.
“With one child having previously been knocked over along this road it is vital that actions is taken by the local authority to address this situation.”
