Aberconwy MS Submits Fourth Objection Letter to the Housing Development Behind Ysgol y Gogarth

Janet Finch-Saunders MS, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, has submitted a fourth objection letter to the application to build 49 dwellings on Bodafon Fields, Nant-y-Gamar Road, Craig-y-Don.

The letter has been submitted in light of the fact that following the majority of Planning Committee members, Conwy County Borough Council, voting to reject the application, the applicant has provided further evidence in relation to the impact on standards of education service and environment currently enjoyed by the special needs school Ysgol y Gogarth including its respite accommodation, Llys Gogarth.

Having considered the Boundary Treatment Plan, Response to the Equality Impact Assessment – Sections plans, and Noise Assessment Addendum, the Member has concluded again that the application should be refused permission.

Commenting on her work in relation to this scheme, Janet said:

“I do not think it acceptable that the Planning Committee allow any development to take place which necessitates action by Ysgol y Gogarth to prepare students. This strikes me as clear evidence that the development is going to result in disturbance to the calm and peaceful environment required to educate the pupils.

“As Ysgol y Gogarth has rightly stated, the chance that one child loses their place in their community because of the disruption caused by the construction phase and subsequent loss of space adjoining the school is too high a price morally and financially for Conwy.

“The Local Authority and the developer should be appalled that they are willing to even contemplate enabling children to walk and cycle to Ysgol Bodafon along a narrow rural lane which is not capable of being improved to meet modern standards. In fact, it seems that the Local Authority’s stance of expecting parents to drive pupils to the school is in breach of PPW 4.1.10 & PPW 4.1.1, and in complete conflict with the Climate Crisis.

“The Local Authority should act in the best interest of the youngest and most vulnerable in society and refuse planning permission”.
