Janet Finch-Saunders MS, Shadow Minister for Climate Change is calling for the  Winter Fuel Support Scheme to  be expanded to include older people claiming Pension Credit.

The Shadow Minister has raised grave concern over the Welsh Governments decision not to include those claiming pension credits into the Winter Fuel Support Scheme for the 2022-23 budget.

Commenting on the matter, Janet said:

“With the cost of living sharply increasing, and with the War in Ukraine pushing energy prices up, the most vulnerable in our communities must be safeguarded against such changes. We need to see a compassionate approach to this problem that delivers meaningful results to problems the people of Wales face today.”

The Shadow Ministers comments echo those of several organisations in Wales, such as the Chief Executive of Age Cymru and the head of Oxfam Cymru. There is deep concerns over the cost of living in Wales and the Welsh Governments lack of consideration on the matter.

The shadow minister goes on to say:

“With their election mandate, The Welsh Labour Government have been given an opportunity to improve the lives of the people of Wales, yet they sit on their hands and look to Westminster to blame. If they continue on this path, they may find themselves at a loss further down the line and go down as the party that abandoned Wales instead of empowering it.”
