The Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy – Janet Finch-Saunders MS – has welcomed the news that that the merged Llys Meddyg and Gyffin Surgeries, which are currently managed by the Health Board, will be returning to independent GP Surgery status.

The contract for the General Medical Services at the surgeries has been awarded to the Plas Menai Health Centre Partnership, who provide services to people living in Llanfairfechan, Penmaenmawr and Dwygyfylchi. Patients registered with Llys Meddyg and Gyffin Surgeries will be receiving a written update from the Health Board over the coming days.

Welcoming the news, Janet said:

“Today’s announcement is some much needed welcome news for the 7,184 patients who belong to the merged practices of Llys Meddyg and Gyffin. My hope is that this transition of management will be a positive step in the right direction for the practices that will allow more patients to be seen in a swifter and more personable fashion.

“With this new contract scheduled to commence on 1st February, and with news that the services are now to be led by an established local partnership, I can assure constituents and practice staff that I will be maintaining a watching brief of the transition to ensure that it is as smooth as possible.

“I recognise that, in conjunction with this announcement, the Health Board has approved the submission of a Strategic Outline Case to seek investment from the Welsh Government to improve primary care facilities for the Conwy based practices, including the co-location of services such as mental health, health visiting and district nursing with primary care.

“In tandem with my continued discussions with local GPs, as well as my long-running campaign to see the restoration of having a dedicated mental health support worker based within surgeries to help bring an end to the worrying trend of turning only to medication, constituents can be assured that I will look to review this case with Health Board officials.”

Should a patient of these surgeries have any questions or concerns, they are advised to email the Area Management Team at [email protected]. Alternatively, a message can also be taken by the answerphone on 03000 851926.
