In holding a site meeting with the residents of Heol Ffynnon Asa in Eglwysbach, as well as officials from Dŵr Cymru and Conwy County Borough Council’s Environment, Roads and Facilities department, the Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy – Janet Finch-Saunders MS – has welcomed the news that the stakeholders have committed to undertaking a collaborative investigation to identify the source of the local road damage.

A plan of action will also be compiled following these investigations, with a date set of February 2022 to report back to constituents. The intervention comes following reports of several years’ worth of serious damage to the road surface. According to engineering reports supplied by residents, it is thought that this damage may be caused by a potential leak from damaged water pipes under the road.

Commenting on the progress made, Janet said:

“A number of constituents have reported that it has become increasingly difficult for elderly residents and visitors to access a number of properties on foot due to the damage, describing some sections of the road as being unsafe for pedestrian movement.

“The need for such positive collaboration to identify the cause of the issue has become increasingly pressing as the substructure has deteriorated to such an extent that my constituents believe that it is no longer suitable for regular vehicular use, bringing great discomfort to those who have little option but to utilise the road each day.

“With recent engineering reports identifying a possible leak or damage to water pipes as the potential cause for the damage, I was most pleased to bring together a number of stakeholders so to review the issue at hand. I look forward to securing the findings of their investigations, as soon as possible, in the new year.

“Ensuring the proper maintenance of our public highways and pathways is of great importance to me. Having recently also secured a positive plan of action from Dŵr Cymru regarding the flooding experienced by residents on Station Road in Deganwy, I would encourage any constituent with a concern about road safety to contact my office as a priority.”
