Having undertaken a site meeting with officials from Dŵr Cymru regarding the flooding experienced by residents on Station Road in Deganwy, the Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy – Janet Finch-Saunders MS – has secured confirmation that a review will be undertaken to assess the possibility of increasing the flow from the local storm/overflow pump.
This assessment will also check if there is any surface water runoff from the intersection of All Saints Avenue and Lon Vardre. Welsh Water have also agreed to implement a non-return valve in one of the gullies. It comes after the road was flooded again on 29 October due to reported discharge from the sewer network. An entrenched issue, the road previously experienced a number of flooding incidents throughout 2019 and 2020.
In another positive update, further to formal representations made to officials at Conwy County Borough Council, an assessment will be undertaken of the flooding hotspot, given that adaptation of the drainage system to provide additional gullies and a larger outfall could be considered.
Commenting on the developments, Janet said:
“Given the repeated instances of flooding occurring on Station Road, having reportedly occurred since 1994, I have been pleased to work in collaboration with local residents to continue pushing forward for positive and proactive actions that will help to address this issue.
“These flooding instances are potentially dangerous for local residents and road users in the area. With torrid storms more likely as a result of climate change, it is vital that action is taken to address this concern.
“I am pleased that, as a direct result of recent interventions and a site visit, stakeholders will now look to assess a range of measures to help alleviate the water flow in the area. My hope is that these assessments will result in funded actions and, as such, I will continue to push for such a resolution.”
