Aberconwy MS Submits Objection to Amended Nant y Gamar Road/Bodafon Fields Development

The Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy – Janet Finch-Saunders MS – has submitted a formal objection to the amended plans for the proposed development on Nant y Gamar Road/Bodafon Fields.

Her letter is the latest action in a campaign which has seen the Member submit another objection letter and convene a public meeting to provide residents and local stakeholders with a valuable opportunity to question those behind the development.

The Member’s five-page letter clearly outlines why Conwy County Borough Council should refuse to give permission. Janet’s objections include:

  • Conflict with Local Housing Market Assessment
  • Preservation and enhancement of the historic landscape
  • Impact on Ysgol y Gogarth and Llys Gogarth
  • Highways
  • Car parking provision
  • Lack of electric charging points
  • Potentially inappropriately placed play facilities
  • Archaeological interests

Commenting on her wide-ranging objection letter, Janet said:

“I encourage the member of Conwy County Borough Council’s Planning Committee to stand with the significant number of the elected representatives of Llandudno – from Town Council to Senedd Cymru – who are opposed to the scheme.

“My wide-ranging letter has outlined a number of planning policy reasons which the Committee could use to refuse the application.

“I am extremely disappointed that the Local Authority seem to have accepted via email on 16 September 2021 that the market mix is acceptable. To be clear, the housing mix is unacceptable. It is in conflict with the Local Housing Market Assessment and I have seen no clear evidence demonstrating that the local circumstances of Llandudno suggests that the deviation better meets local needs.

“When considering that we all have to take steps to combat the climate crisis, I was astounded to read that there is no provision of electric vehicle charging points on the estate.

“Importantly, a key response has been submitted by the Play Development Officer, who has raised very reasonable concerns about Nant-y-Gamar Road. As the officer has correctly noted, the area during school drop off and pick up can become very difficult for children and young people to navigate, and a sustainable traffic crossing and pathways should be put in place to enable residents to move around Nant-y-Gamar and Bodafon roads safely.

“This development is located immediately behind Ysgol y Gogarth and Llys Gogarth. The Local Authority should not allow the creation of a development which could have a detrimental impact on vulnerable children and young people”.
