In a letter to the Welsh Government’s Deputy Minister for Climate Change, the Member for the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy – Janet Finch-Saunders MS – has urged for a resolution to the concerns surrounding the installation of a safe, pedestrian crossing at Llwyn Brith, Llanrwst.
Further to representations made at the close of last financial year, Mrs Finch-Saunders received a commitment to arrange a pedestrian crossing assessment to be undertaken in this financial year. The Member has raised concerns about the pace of action over this promise, calling for an update and a review of any recommendations made.
Commenting on the letter, Janet said:
“For those residents in Parc yr Eryr, Llwyn Brith and Maes Melwr who use bus services, local children or the vulnerable who want to walk into town or school, they must regularly cross the A470. This poses a considerable safety issue to all road users, particularly during the winter months when driver visibility can be challenged.
“As road usage has increased along this stretch, I have long been petitioning the Welsh Government to replace the current uncontrolled crossing with a more permanent pedestrian crossing. But now seven months into the 2021/22 financial year, an update from officials remains pending.
“This road safety issue remains of considerable concern for many residents in the area, so it is essential that the Deputy Minister drives forward his promise so that we may find a cost effective and welcome solution. The wheels of change have been stuck in the mud for far too long.”
Last year’s representations to the Welsh Government also requested consideration of a part-time 20 mph limit to be introduced on the A470 between Tŷ Glan Conwy (Bridge Street) Llanrwst and the junction with Nebo Road. An assessment was commissioned, for which Mrs Finch-Saunders has also requested an update.
