The Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy - Janet Finch-Saunders MS - has welcomed the success of the Civic Sunday event in Llandudno, which highlighted the extraordinary community leadership that is helping to push forward the town’s recovery. Civic Sunday is a formal well-wishing ceremony for the Mayor of Llandudno, Cllr. Harry Saville, and the Town Council.
Following an act of remembrance at the Cenotaph, the procession headed to St John's Methodist Church on Mostyn Street to receive the service of blessing and a sermon from the Mayor's Chaplain on Romans 13 about the role of community leadership. Afterwards, those dignitaries present took the salute at the Town Hall before making their way to St George Hotel for a lunch and speeches.
Marking the occasion, Janet said:
“It was a real honour to have joined the Mayor and Mayoress of Llandudno, Cllr. Harry Saville and Miss Loren, over the weekend as our local dignitaries came together in a poignant and moving moment of remembrance and collective well-wishing for the year ahead.
“The weekend's service underlined the importance of community leadership and of building links with civic representatives to ensure that our recovery is as strong as possible. The data released last week which showed that the Queen of Welsh Resorts is bouncing back at a faster rate, when compared with other highstreets in the UK, highlights that the work being undertaken locally is finding considerable success.
“I should also like to pay tribute to the attendees, the Llandudno Town Band who provided such a wonderful soundtrack to the procession, as well as to the Mayor's Secretary, the Town Clerk and the Deputy Town Clerk for their role in organising such a wonderful event. Likewise, I also extend my thanks the Mayor’s Chaplain for her beautiful sermon which set the tone for our blessings.”
