The Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy – Janet Finch-Saunders MS – has encouraged constituents to engage with a planned public consultation over the proposals to develop Awel y Môr Offshore Wind Farm off the coast of North Wales.

The consultation will be carried out between 31 August 2021 and the 11 October 2021. A hybrid approach to the consultation is planned via a virtual exhibition platform, to be accessed through the project website, and select, targeted face-to-face consultations in outdoor spaces across the region.

Encouraging constituents to register their views, Janet said:

“In recognising the wide-ranging concerns of local constituents with regards to the potential knock on impact of this long-running project, I am pleased to be actively encouraging constituents to register their views before 11 October 2021 so that they can be actioned as part of its forward progression.

“Renewable energy will play a central role in our green Coronavirus recovery, though progress must be balanced against legitimate concerns. This is why I have long been calling on the Welsh Government to review its policies with regards to marine spatial planning, asking officials to work with stakeholders to collect the necessary data to confirm their impact on the environment.

“With their turbines potentially being as tall as the Eiffel Tower and quite possibly having an impact on the local seabird population, spatial planning will be key to my submission to the Awel y Môr consultation. These consultations can have a substantial impact on plans and so I welcome this opportunity for civic engagement with the community.”
