EV charging point investment will help ‘supercharge’ Aberconwy’s economic recovery

The Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy – Janet Finch-Saunders MS – has welcomed the news that Llandudno is to benefit from major electric vehicle charging point investment.

The funding will support Network Rail EV charging commitments by looping in a new 1000kVA transformer to deliver 600kW of EV charging stations at Llandudno Railway Station. Energy regulator Ofgem has said it is investing £300 million to expand the UK’s electric vehicle charging network.

Welcoming the investment, Janet said:

“I am simply delighted that Llandudno has been selected by OFGEM for investment in this funding round, with this commitment ensuring that our transport hubs remain at the forefront of innovation.

“With our tourism and hospitality sectors looking to bounce back and experience several strong seasons, this push to green energy will only supercharge our economic recovery.

“As more than 500,000 electric cars are now travelling on our roads, and with this number set to increase as we head toward the ban on the sale of new petrol and diesel cars and vans, improving the local infrastructure will be vital if we are to reassure the population that such vehicles will be a benefit to their lives.

“We know that many still face a postcode lottery when in comes to accessing a rapid EV charging point so the Welsh Government should build on this infrastructure investment from OFGEM, particularly in our rural communities, to ensure that all families may now make the transition to this cleaner form of transport.”
