Janet Finch-Saunders AM/AC, the Assembly Member for Aberconwy has today called for greater accountability for local authority cabinets across Wales. Local authorities affect every citizen of Wales and decision makers need to be held to the highest level of accountability.
The importance of a robust Ministerial code in the Welsh Government is paramount to ensure that public faith in the Government is kept.
However at the local authority cabinet level there is no equivalent. Janet Finch-Saunders AM/AC proposed that a similar code or appraisal system for local authority cabinets could strengthen accountability and the Minister agreed to look into this.
Janet Finch-Saunders AM said: “Public faith in our democratic institutions is vitally important. The public must be sure that their local authority Cabinet Members are held to the highest standard and so I welcome the Minister’s agreement to consider my proposals”.
