In June 2013, £1.8m was announced as being made available to support credit unions by the then Minister for Communities and Tackling Poverty, Huw Lewis AM. In pressing for action, Janet said: “Funding for the expansion of credit unions across Wales was announced in June of last year, yet no further announcement about successful applications was made until January 15th.
“The funding needs to be used in this financial year, which means that the Welsh Government must agree to extend the deadline for this funding, to allow our credit unions to use it to maximum effect.”
