PRESS RELEASE

During a time when the debate rages about the future of the United Kingdom, Janet Finch-Saunders AM has led a Welsh Conservative debate about the importance of the continuing Union.

The Assembly Member said: “Welsh Conservatives believe that the inherent connections between the Home Nations are embedded at all levels; from cultural connections to business and investment links.

“Firms such as the CBI have predicted significant growth in a number of domestic industries in the United Kingdom, and the Welsh Conservatives believe the Home Nations are best placed together to pursue these opportunities in advancing our common purpose.

Addressing the referendum on Scottish independence, the AM argued that: “an independent Scotland would not be capable of capitalising on these opportunities for growth.

“I believe the people of Scotland recognise this, which is reflected in polling numbers showing just over a quarter supporting independence.

“In Wales too, we benefit greatly from our continued membership of the UK. The UK Government has provided significant investment for transport and communications infrastructure.

“Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and England are best served by remaining linked as part of a strong United Kingdom. Put simply, we are better, together.”
