Janet Finch-Saunders, Shadow Minister for Social Care, hosted therapy dogs and their owners in the Senedd this week.

The event, organised with Mrs Mary Oliver MBE, from Glan Conwy, aimed to improve awareness of the incredible work undertaken by therapy dogs, and the positive impact they can have on all our lives.

Following the event, Janet is calling for anyone with a dog to consider volunteering with Therapy Dogs Nationwide.  She said:

“As a dog lover myself, I was delighted to host therapy dogs in the Senedd this week.

“Their tail wagging certainly caught people’s attention, so I hope that my colleagues in Cardiff Bay are now fully aware of the positive difference therapy dogs can make.

“For example, stroking a pet can result in a reduction in blood pressure, the presence of pets can promote social interaction and reduce psychological responses to anxiety, and dogs are helping children develop a passion for reading.

“Therapy dogs are changing people’s lives for the better.

“If you would like to visit establishments such as schools, hospitals, and care homes, with your dog, please do consider volunteering with Therapy Dogs Nationwide”.
