Having enjoyed two farm breakfasts this week in Cardiff Bay and Ysbyty Ifan with Mr Glyn Roberts, President of FUW, and Mr Gwynedd Watkin, County Executive Officer for FUW, Janet Finch-Saunders, Assembly Member for Aberconwy, is asking constituents to join with her in supporting Welsh farmers.
The FUW hold farm house breakfasts every January. The events provide an opportunity to promote local produce, the importance of the rural economy, and see thousands of pounds raised for charitable causes. This year donations are going to support the DPJ Foundation and the Fund for the 2021 Boduan National Eisteddfod Crown.
Following the breakfast at Dylasau Uchaf, Ysbyty Ifan, Janet said:
“It has been a pleasure spending time with local farmers this week.
“With lambing in full swing for some, and dairy herds indoors for others, the workload can be at its hardest this time of year.
“That farmers have been able to give their time to take part in the farm house campaign is truly admirable.
“It goes to show just how important it is that all of us make an effort to understand and support local farming.
“British beef has a greenhouse gas footprint 2.5 times lower than the rest of the world.
“Welsh lamb and beef have been recognised for their special characteristics, flavours and textures, and cannot be replicated anywhere else in the world.
“And our dairy farmers ar producing milk to the highest quality and world-leading standards of animal health and welfare.
“Despite producing premium produce, farmers continue to face periods of uncertainty which can contribute negatively to mental health and well-being.
“Sadly, as many as one in four people in farming have been diagnosed with a mental illness.
“Please join with me in buying Welsh produce so to show your support of our hardworking local farmers”.
