Momentum is gathering for Llanrwst's tinsel town-esque sign to remain in the Gwydir Forest

There are growing calls to keep Llanrwst's very own Hollywood sign in place.

The sign located in an eye-catching location in the Gwydir Forest, was erected before the recent successful National Eisteddfod, and it made an instant impact.

As the bunting, Welsh flags and Croeso signs have been coming down since the week long event, it seems many residents would like the Llanrwst sign to stay up-permanently.

The sing was approved by Snowdonia National Park Authority with the condition that: "The sign and any associated fittings shall be removed from the site in its entirety and the land restored to its former condition no later than December 31, 2019".

Janet Finch-Saunders, Assembly Member for Aberconwy, has joined with constituents in calling for Llanrwst’s Hollywood sign to remain at its location in the Gwydir forest permanently.

The sing was approved by Snowdonia National Park Authority with the condition that ‘The sign and any associated fittings shall be removed from the site in its entirety and the land restored to its former condition no later than 31 December 2019’.

Commenting on the sign, Mrs Finch-Saunders said: "During and since the Eisteddfod I have been approached by numerous residents who would like Llanrwst’s striking sign to stay put.

"Having seen the display first hand, I do not doubt that it catches the eye of the majority of people passing through the Conwy Valley, especially along the A470.

"The sign has a fantastic potential to benefit the town and wider area significantly.

"It serves as a marvellous reminder of the town’s civic pride and fascinating history."

The AM continued: "And it has already become an attraction, with photos appearing across social media of residents and visitors frequenting the site to see the large letters up close.

"It cannot be denied that countless tourists continue to pass through the town, despite its numerous attractions and fantastic businesses. The sign has the potential to change this, and therefore, I have already started making enquiries with the Leader of Conwy County Borough Council and the original planning applicant to see what might be done to save the Llanrwst sign."

A spokesman for the Snowdonia National Park Authority: "Planning permission was granted until New Year’s Eve by the Snowdonia National Park Authority, extending the period beyond this time will be subject to presenting a new application."
