Following the finding that there were almost 100,000 patient safety incidents reported by health boards across Wales between June 2018 and May 2019, and that Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB) saw thousands more than any other, Janet Finch-Saunders, Assembly Member for Aberconwy, and Shadow Minister for Social Care, Children, Young People, and Older People, has called for an investigation to be undertaken and an explanation to be provided by the Health Minister directly responsible for the board.
Janet said:
"The number of patient safety incidents here in North Wales is extremely worrying.
“Our health board has seen the highest number of incidents across Wales, including those resulting in death.
“It cannot be right that 48 people died as a result of safety incidents here whilst during the same period Cwm Taf Morganwg University Health Board saw not a single death.
“Clearly, more needs to be done to ascertain why the situation is far worse at our health board.
“With the best interest of patients and hard working staff at heart, I have written to the Minister directly responsible for the health board so to request an investigation and explanation of what action he will be taking to reduce incidents and reassure residents”.
