Commenting on the news that, from 2019, Bangor University will being training up future doctors for Wales, Assembly Member for Aberconwy Janet Finch-Saunders has said:
“Having long called for a medical school for North Wales, to train up our doctors of tomorrow, I am delighted that the Cabinet Secretary has reversed his controversial refusal on this matter.
“In July 2017, Vaughan Gething stated that there was ‘no case’ for such a school, but thankfully has seen sense on the matter.
“Enabling medical students to complete their training in North Wales will go a long way to ensuring the future sustainability of recruitment and retention of doctors, GPs and consultants in the area.
“Let’s face it – there are no more beautiful places in the world to live – once you’re here, you’re hooked! We can attract medical students to study here with high quality educational opportunities, and encourage them to stay here with our stunning surroundings and community-based way of life.”
