Welsh Government and Constituents Urged to help Superfast Situation in Conwy

Responding to the finding that only 40.03% of residents living in Conwy County Borough Council have taken the decision to upgrade to superfast, Janet is urging the other 52.66% who can order to do so.

Janet said:

“Since I was first elected in 2011 I have been putting significant pressure on the Welsh Government to ensure that every premises in Aberconwy could upgrade to superfast broadband.

“Most recently, I welcomed the news that premises in Dolwyddelan and Pont-y-Pant can now order, and held a broadband public meeting with representatives of BT, Openreach, and Julie James AM, Leader of the House and Chief Whip - the member of the Welsh Government responsible for superfast rollout.

“She has now written to me advising that each concern raised by me on behalf of constituents will be responded to directly. However, there is no guarantee that superfast will be immediately available as the Superfast Cymru build is now complete.

“Whilst the Welsh Government have agreed to introduce another superfast scheme, there is a major step many of us living in Conwy County, in fact, 52.66%, can take: order superfast if it is available to our premises.

“Certainly, the extra cost of superfast might reasonably put people off, but for those wanting a swifter service, I advise that you place an order with a provider as some of the money paid will go towards helping upgrade those who currently cannot”.
