Janet Finch-Saunders AM has called on the Welsh Government to take real action to improve the industry, infrastructure and investment in rural Wales.
Speaking during a debate in Plenary, Janet said “For too long, Welsh government policy has not reflected the vibrant rural areas of Wales. We have a booming rural tourist sector, no more so than in Aberconwy, but strategies that the lazy Labour government have brought forward do not adequately outline the ways in which they will support this exciting industry.”
“The Welsh Government is also failing to provide the right infrastructure in rural areas in terms of public transport. Rural residents have seen funding for bus services cut at the same time as fares have increased. The Welsh Government needs to take action and provide sufficient funding for a sustainable transport network for our rural communities.
“Our farming communities have also borne the brunt of poor policy. In England, Scotland and North Ireland, governments have been forthcoming with funding for those farmers that operate in Less Favoured Areas. Wales has no dedicated fund, and the Welsh Labour Government needs to act now to ensure these hard-working communities do not suffer further harm.”
