Residents in Conwy are set to have their wheelie bins emptied only every four weeks.
Conwy County Borough Council could soon remove non-recyclable waste monthly, saving £390,000 a year. A trial was introduced just over a year ago affecting 10,900 homes, and three-weekly collections were brought in for all other households.
According to the authority, recycling had increased by 14 per cent in four-weekly collection areas and the amount of rubbish placed in wheelie bins reduced by almost a third.
Councillors are told in a report to be discussed next week:
Four-weekly collections are the most sustainable long term solution to recycle more and waste less, accompanied by a comprehensive programme of education and engagement with the people of Conwy.

But the possible move has been met with opposition, local Assembly Members Janet Finch-Saunders and Darren Millar are urging Councillors to reject the calls.
They issued this joint statement:
We remain firmly opposed to proposals to roll out four weekly refuse collections.
The pilot scheme has proven to be extremely unpopular with local residents and complaints relating to litter, fly tipping and pests have become a regular feature of our mail bags where it has operated.
While we applaud the efforts that the Council has made to increase recycling rates in recent years, given the problems that four weekly collections have caused we urge councillors to listen to local opposition, ditch these proposals, and explore other options to promote recycling.
For the overwhelming majority of taxpayers in Conwy four-weekly bin collections are a step too far.
