A second protest march in Llandudno against Conwy County Borough Council’s enforcement practices, and concerns relating to Kingdom – the private security firm contracted by the council – has been planned for 30th September 2017.
A recent public meeting on this issue held by Janet Finch-Saunders, Assembly Member for Aberconwy, was attended by around 150 people. [See previous press release, attached.]
Janet said:
“That a second protest march has been arranged really goes to show the strength of feeling on this issue.
“Despite reassurances from the Leader and Cabinet Member of a softer approach being forthcoming, people feel that the response from Conwy County Borough Council has not been clear enough, and that it is business as usual by Kingdom. [Statements attached.]
“I am still receiving complaints from constituents who have been extremely distressed and upset by the enforcement of these Orders on a daily basis. People are being penalised and feeling criminalised, through no fault of their own.
“Despite the Council advising that Kingdom officers were to be advised to only issue a fine if a request to comply with an Order was directly ignored, very little information has been made public on this.”
Organiser and immediate past Mayor of Llandudno, Cllr Carol Marubbi, said:
“This has been called as a result of a lack of response from Conwy County Borough Council – there has been a complete lack of information from both them and Kingdom. We were told Kingdom officers would ‘back off’ and issue advice rather than fines, but it appears that this is still not the case, and many are still receiving FPNs.
“People feel bullied, some women even feel they are being stalked by officers! And yet there remains a lack of appropriate signage, and we have seen no additional dog mess bins, despite paying more and more council tax each year.”
Notes:
The march will take place on Saturday 30th September 2017.
Participants are to congregate at Entrance to Llandudno Pier, Promenade, Llandudno at 10:30am.
At 11am, the protest will march up to Carlton Corner, the around and back down through Lloyd Street, ending outside the Town Hall.
