Labour’s controversial Trade Union Bill reaches third stage

Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Local Government, Janet Finch-Saunders, will once again lead Conservative opposition to the Welsh Government’s Trade Union (Wales) Bill on Tuesday.

The Aberconwy AM described the Bill as “playing politics” and said that UK Government reforms were merely designed to modernise trade unionism – and to ensure openness and transparency.

The Welsh Government’s Bill reaches its third stage on Tuesday, and has been described as “pay back” for Labour’s Trade Union paymasters.

Mrs Finch-Saunders said:

“This is the first piece of legislation introduced by the Welsh Labour Government this year, which tells you all you need to know about their priorities.

“Instead of focusing on other crucial policy areas – such as introducing an Autism Bill – we get an expensive and unnecessary Bill to pay back their Labour’s trade union paymasters.

“The UK Government is merely seeking to make trade union processes more open and transparent.

“These reforms are designed to modernise trade unionism and to protect essential public services against strike action.

“Sadly, Welsh Labour and their partners the nationalists have played politics with this issue from the start.”
