Occupational Therapists are offering visitors to Glan Clwyd Hospital an insight into their work and careers.

As part of Occupational Therapy Week, Occupational Therapists from throughout the Health Board will be at Glan Clwyd Hospital sharing information about career opportunities in the profession, helping people to better understand their work.

Occupational Therapists work to improve the lives of people whose health prevents them from undertaking a range of activities. They work with people experiencing a range of health matters, often including people with physical or learning disabilities and mental health needs.

From 9.30am until 3.30pm on November 10, Occupational Therapists will be at the hospital’s central lift area sharing information about how they work to help people live their lives better.

Katrina Stafford, one of the Occupational Therapists hoping to talk to members of the public about their work, said: “We are still quite an unknown profession to those that have never needed an Occupational Therapist, and our role can be quite varied.

“We want to meet people and raise awareness of what we do, and how fulfilling and rewarding a career in Occupational Therapy is.”

As well as being on hand to share information about their work, the Occupational Therapists will be hosting a range of games that help illustrate their day-to-day work, and offering advice to anyone considering a career in Occupational Therapy.

Occupational Therapy Week, organised by the College of Occupational Therapists, runs from November 7 to 13, with this year’s event themed on careers.

Adrian Thomas, Interim Executive Director of Therapies and Health Sciences, said: “Occupational Therapists do an incredible job supporting a wide variety of people, including some of the most vulnerable in our society, to overcome the effects of disability so that they can carry out everyday task or occupations.

“Occupational Therapy is a really rewarding career with opportunities to work in many settings and I would encourage anyone who wants to find out more to get in touch with our team or find out more information on our website.”
