Teenagers across Conwy celebrated this morning after receiving their GCSE results.
Students at Ysgol John Bright in Llandudno celebrated after the publication of their record GCSE results, with 91% of students gaining five or more A*-C grades.
Headteacher Matt Vickery said: “The results confirm the continuing success of the school, where academic standards have reached an all time high.”
Ysgol Rydal announced that 91% of the 389 subjects taken had been passed with an A*-C grade.
In addition, 46.8% of these were awarded an A*-A mark, with the number of candidates achieving five GCSEs at A*-C recorded at 93.2%.
The highest performing subject was biology, which topped the table with 90% of candidates gaining an A*-A grade.
Acting head Roger McDuff said: “With the competition for university places more competitive than ever, GCSE grades are increasingly vital in preparing the way for offers to some of the finest educational establishments in the country.
“We are delighted that our pupils are so successful in taking this critical first step to their future careers, and well done to both staff and parents for their efforts in helping to achieve their goals.”
Ysgol Dyffryn Conwy in Llanrwst also reported its best ever results this year.
Headteacher Elan Davies said: “Our pupils have really excelled themselves this year with an almost 8% increase on previous results in the main indicator for five A*-Cs or more.”
Gwenno M Davies, acting deputy head of Ysgol y Creuddyn in Penrhyn Bay, said: “We are celebrating the second best results ever at Ysgol y Creuddyn, thanks to our students’ achievements and hard work.
“Among the pupils who succeeded to gain outstanding results are Emily Johnson, Huw Jones, Ilid Roberts and Sophie Ryder, who secured 11 A*/A grades.
“Lois Evans and Ellie Roberts also succeeded to gain nine A*/A grades.”
