Janet Finch-Saunders, the Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, who has been campaigning against the proposed closure, commented:
“The closure of Ysgol Betws-y-Coed would be devastating for the community, the language, and access to education. Some primary school students could end up having to travel for as long as half an hour from homes in Capel Curig to Ysgol Capel Garmon.
“The closure of our rural schools is detrimental to local communities, which would experience an increased sense of isolation. Schools such as Ysgol Betws-y-Coed also provide a venue for groups in these rural areas to come together, as well as offering an excellent standard of education.
“I have submitted my firm objection and highlighted the significant impacts this proposed closure would have on our community. I strongly encourage everyone, especially those in the local area, to make their views heard.”
