Janet Finch-Saunders, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy is delighted to have hosted a beach clean-up with the Marine Conservation Society on Friday at Llandudno’s West Shore.

She praised the community commitment to ensure clean local coastal habitats, by removing the modern menace that is single use plastic.

There was an excellent turn out from the community with stakeholders such as North Wales Police present along with those members of the public who volunteered. A staggering 4kg of plastic, wire and general waste was collected.

Commenting on the turn out, Janet said:

“In Aberconwy, we are truly fortunate to be graced with some of the most magnificent coastal landscapes in the entire United Kingdom, embracing the diverse wildlife and lush vegetation that thrive within them. However, this privilege also carries with it a profound obligation: to safeguard and nurture our coastal habitats, ensuring their preservation for the benefit of future generations.

“Amid the pressing focus on the climate crisis, I frequently find myself troubled by the relegation of nature to a secondary position in policymaking.

“Yet, witnessing the enthusiastic turnout of various stakeholders for Friday’s beach clean reaffirms that the public is demanding immediate action to address the current threat posed by waste.

“The litter cleared and surveyed in West Shore will be recorded in the national report prepared by the Marine Conservation Society, which influences policies and laws across the country”.
