Welsh Government Waste Must be Addressed

With news of Bristol Airport’s legal challenge against the £205.2 million subsidy from the Welsh Government for Cardiff Airport, it offers a vital opportunity to address the high levels of Welsh Government waste spending, which should instead have been used to improve the Welsh NHS and Welsh schools.

Janet Finch-Saunders, the Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, who has challenged the Welsh Government, propped up by Plaid Cymru, over its extensive wasteful spending, commented:

“This Welsh Labour Government, propped up by Plaid Cymru, has been more focused on prioritising its pet projects than on delivering the support that the Welsh NHS and schools need.

“From the £120 million spent on Welsh Labour and Plaid Cymru’s Senedd expansion project, to the £136 million increase in central services and administration in just two years, and of course the £206 million spent over 10 years on Cardiff Airport, now with the latest support being challenged by Bristol Airport.

“This money should have been reprioritised into key areas. Wales needs more doctors, nurses, teachers, and dentists, and certainly not more politicians.

“The Welsh Conservatives have consistently challenged this spending and have committed to creating an Anti-Waste Action Plan.”
