Welsh Government still leaving residents with dangerous cladding on their walls

Janet Finch-Saunders, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy is pleased to have been able to draw attention to the cladding crisis that Wales is facing.

On Monday night on ITV’s Sharp End Janet was on a panel of Members who were discussing the fire safety issues facing residents in Wales.

Residents have outlined that there is very little evidence of developers “working at pace”. It appears that significant progress has been made in terms of surveying the issue, but there has been little tangible action taken to address the problem. Residents are also experiencing a lack of communication and information from both developers and the Welsh Government regarding the status of improving these dangerous exterior coverings.

Commenting on the news Janet said:

“It is deeply troubling that 7 years after the horrors and tragedy of Grenfell that people in Wales still have this dangerous cladding on their buildings. People are expected to live in these dangerous properties that at any moment could go up in flames, which is terrifying.

“The Welsh Government are really behind on this. I’ve heard their rhetoric over and over again that progress is being made but we are yet to see the serious improvements that are desperately required. I know this for a fact because my own flat in Cardiff Bay has a safety problem too.

“It is a scandal that developers who are charged with improving these fire safety issues are still being given planning permissions and are involved in other projects across Wales. That should be stopped immediately”.
