Cllr Janet Finch-Saunders today called on the Welsh Labour Government to follow the lead of the Conservative Government in Westminster by holding more Cabinet and Assembly meetings around the country.

Meetings were often held in North Wales during the First and Second Assemblies and provisions were in place during the Third Assembly although no meetings were actually held during the last Assembly.

Janet said: “The Conservative Government in Westminster holds meetings around the UK, such as their Cabinet meeting her in Cardiff today.

“The Welsh Labour Government has previously talked of holding Assembly or committee meetings in North Wales.

“In the past, meetings have been held in North Wales which made people feel more engaged with their Assembly.

“The lack of Assembly activity in North Wales now has led to feelings of disenfranchisement amongst the people of North Wales. This was highlighted to me by many people during my election campaign, in particular by the business community who are eager to engage with the Government in North Wales.

“I really do believe that the Welsh Government is are losing an opportunity to engage with their electorate, and I would call on the First Minister to provide some reassurance that he will consider holding Assembly meetings in North Wales over the Fourth Assembly.”#

Janet has twice called for meetings to be held in North Wales during her short time as an Assembly Member.

The First Minister has responded that he will hold a Cabinet meeting in North Wales at the end of the month.
