Janet Finch-Saunders MS – the Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy – has today asked the First Minister to review guidance issued on the playing of wind instruments which is currently causing a dilemma for a renowned local music festival. Mrs Finch-Saunders has now requested that a roadmap is put in place for larger-scale events to recommence.
Commenting after her question to the First Minister, Janet said:
“The events sector is a key driver into our region, with artistic and sporting occasions bringing visitors and employing many local residents. These events also have a positive knock-on impact for our hospitality businesses and accommodation providers.
“However, many are finding issues with the restrictions which remain in place. Indeed, Welsh Government guidance for the arts sector actually has a major contradictory point, causing dilemma for a leading Aberconwy music festival which takes place in a church.
“As I made clear to the First Minister today, whilst the playing of wind instruments can take place under one set of rules for the performing arts, those guiding places of worship still prevent their use. Our local talents should know when their sound can ring out once again.
“Sporting events, such as marathons and the strong man, also deserve some urgent clarity. The Welsh Government must look to design and publish a roadmap for larger-scale events to recommence as a priority. To continue to navigate with half a plan is unfeasible.”
