The Welsh Ambulance Transport Service is failing residents across Aberconwy and North Wales. Frequent last-minute cancellations are causing patients to miss their appointments, resulting in delays to vital treatment and wasting valuable appointment slots.
The reasons cited for these cancellations include a lack of drivers and no available space at hospitals. However, these factors can often be anticipated and planned for when organising ambulance transport for patients. This highlights a serious issue of disorganisation that urgently needs to be addressed.
Janet Finch-Saunders, the Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, has raised this matter on multiple occasions with the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board and the Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care, Jeremy Miles MS.
Commenting on the failings of the Welsh Ambulance Transport Service, Janet said:
“I am deeply concerned by the continued reports from my constituents about the Welsh Ambulance Transport Service letting them down, with some missing crucial appointments due to a lack of transport for cardiology issues and other potentially life-threatening conditions.
“This is completely unacceptable and adds to the significant stress and anxiety many patients are already facing. It is well known that many people, including the elderly, rely solely on the Welsh Ambulance Transport Service to attend their appointments.
These last-minute cancellations leave patients distressed and unable to attend, resulting in missed appointments and wasted opportunities for others who could have used the slot.
“The Welsh Ambulance Transport Service is clearly disorganised when it comes to cancellations, and serious questions must be asked and addressed regarding the failings of this essential service.”

Mae Gwasanaeth Cludiant Ambiwlans Cymru yn methu trigolion ledled Aberconwy a Gogledd Cymru. Mae canslo munud olaf mynych yn achosi i gleifion golli eu hapwyntiadau, gan arwain at oedi cyn cael triniaethau hanfodol a gwastraffu slotiau apwyntiadau gwerthfawr.
Mae'r rhesymau a nodwyd dros y canslo hyn yn cynnwys diffyg gyrwyr a dim lle ar gael mewn ysbytai. Fodd bynnag, gellir rhagweld a chynllunio'r ffactorau hyn yn aml wrth drefnu cludiant ambiwlans i gleifion. Mae hyn yn tynnu sylw at fater difrifol o ddiffyg trefnu y mae angen mynd i'r afael ag ef ar frys.
Mae Janet Finch-Saunders, yr Aelod o’r Senedd dros Aberconwy, wedi codi'r mater hwn sawl gwaith gyda Bwrdd Iechyd Prifysgol Betsi Cadwaladr ac Ysgrifennydd y Cabinet dros Iechyd a Gofal Cymdeithasol, Jeremy Miles AS.
Gan gyfeirio at fethiannau Gwasanaeth Cludiant Ambiwlans Cymru, dywedodd Janet:
"Rwy'n bryderus iawn am yr adroddiadau parhaus gan fy etholwyr am Wasanaeth Cludiant Ambiwlans Cymru yn eu methu, gyda rhai apwyntiadau hanfodol yn cael eu colli oherwydd diffyg cludiant ar gyfer problemau cardioleg a chyflyrau eraill a allai fod yn peryglu bywyd.
"Mae hyn yn gwbl annerbyniol ac yn ychwanegu at y straen a'r pryder sylweddol y mae llawer o gleifion eisoes yn eu hwynebu. Mae'n hysbys bod llawer o bobl, gan gynnwys yr henoed, yn dibynnu ar Wasanaeth Cludiant Ambiwlans Cymru yn llwyr i fynychu eu hapwyntiadau.
“Mae'r canslo munud olaf hyn yn gadael cleifion yn ofidus ac yn methu mynychu, gan arwain at apwyntiadau yn cael eu colli a gwastraffu cyfleoedd i eraill a allai fod wedi defnyddio'r slot.
"Mae Gwasanaeth Cludiant Ambiwlans Cymru yn amlwg yn anhrefnus o ran canslo, ac mae'n rhaid gofyn a mynd i'r afael â chwestiynau difrifol ynglŷn â methiannau'r gwasanaeth hanfodol hwn."
