Cllr Janet Finch-Saunders AM this week called for AMs to back welfare reform. Janet said:

“The UK Government’s Welfare Reform Bill is not about stigmatising those dependent on the benefit system but rather is about enabling the most disadvantaged to get back into work.

“I was disappointed to see other parties- Labour and Plaid Cymru in particular- clouding the debate with scaremongering tactics.

“The fact of the matter remains that under Labour, Wales has the highest proportion of people in receipt of unemployment allowance and incapacity benefit, and that will not change unless we consider radical change. These reforms are designed to protect the vulnerable and support all of those who want to find work, and it is time for a reality check.”

Galwodd Cyng. Janet Finch-Saunders AC ar Aelodau’r Cynulliad yr wythnos hon i gefnogi diwygio lles-daliadau. Dywedodd Janet:

"Nid yw Mesur Diwygio Lles Llywodraeth y DU yn ymwneud â stigmateiddio’r rhai sy'n dibynnu ar y system budd-daliadau, ond yn hytrach yn ymwneud â galluogi’r pobl mwya’ difreintiedig i ddychwelyd i'r gwaith.

"Yr oeddwn yn siomedig o weld partïon o Gymru - Lafur a Phlaid Cymru yn benodol – yn cymylu’r ddadl gyda tactegau codi bwganod.

"Y gwir amdani o hyd yw- o dan Lafur, Cymru sydd â'r gyfran uchaf o bobl yn derbyn lwfans diweithdra a budd-dal analluogrwydd, ac ni fydd hyn yn newid oni bai ein bod yn ystyried newid radical. Mae'r diwygiadau hyn wedi'u cynllunio i amddiffyn pobl sy’n agored i niwed ac i gefnogi pob un o'r rhai hynny sydd am ddod o hyd i waith, ac mae'n bryd am wiriad realiti. "
