Despite the first rainy day in weeks, more than 20 people joined Assembly Member Janet Finch-Saunders at Llandudno’s North Shore for a beach clean.

The AM has expressed her thanks and admiration for all those who came along.

Janet said:

“Despite the rain, it was wonderful that so many eager and willing volunteers were able to come out and give their time for this great exercise.

“The local Llandudno – and wider – community has a proud history of helping each other out, and it was great that we were all able to pitch in together to clean out beach.

“The success tourism industry on which much of our economy in Llandudno relies is thanks, in part, to the wonderful work done by our Council and volunteers in keeping our public spaces looking their best. The contribution of the many generous volunteers today towards keeping our North Shore beach clean, safe and tidy for visitors and wildlife alike really is fantastic.

“Even the smallest bits of litter can pose a real danger to our marine wildlife – especially plastic, which doesn’t degrade.

“When ingested, plastic can cause irreparable internal damage and a life-threatening impact to our precious marine wildlife and birds.

“Once more, my sincere thanks to NFU Mutual and Tesco for coming along to give their support also – following our successful Deganwy clean earlier this year.

Clare Reed of the Marine Conservation Society (MCS) provided a briefing for volunteers, and guided the clean, with volunteers tracking the type of litter picked up as part of the ongoing monitoring work of the MCS through their Beachwatch project.

Representatives from Tesco and NFU Mutual were in attendance, with NFU Mutual kindly providing refreshments for volunteers.
