The Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy – Janet Finch-Saunders MS/AS – has today visited the Community Coffee Stop in Glan Conwy, to hear the concerns of constituents and take questions from residents. The Community Coffee Stop is a communal and friendly affair, providing a safe environment in which residents can knit, chat, and catch up with friends.
Welcoming the return of such events, Janet said:
“Throughout the Senedd’s summer recess period, I have been most pleased to have toured the constituency to hear from businesses and residents so that I could better gauge how the constituency is bouncing back from the pandemic. I was overjoyed to have been invited to join the ladies of the Community Coffee Stop in Glan Conwy.
“It was also most interesting to witness the preparations which are now taking place to construct a cascade of knitted and crocheted poppies which is going to adorn St. Ffraid's Church in a moving act of remembrance. I would like to thank those playing a role in this wonderful community scheme, which I know will provide a tranquil moment to pause and acknowledge those who have served.
“With the coffee in full flow, it was tremendously exciting to witness the return of these friendly social gatherings, which are organised in a Covid-secure fashion, as I know that they provide loving reassurance and a safe environment in which to enjoy hobbies for so many constituents.
“Already in the Sixth Senedd, I have urged the Welsh Government to provide clarity over how access to social support groups is being supported, so that we may see the resumption of these face to face meetings. Too many older residents are being left isolated because of the transition of groups to the digital sphere, so it is vital that these groups are given the support they need to return and thrive.”
