Urgent Call to Reduce Dermatology Waiting Times/ Galwad frys i leihau amseroedd aros Dermatoleg

Patient pathways waiting to start dermatology treatment for more than 36 weeks have increased from 5,516 in May 2024 to 5,550 in May 2025.

Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board has noted that lengthy waiting lists and long delays in dermatology treatment are due to a number of vacancies within the dermatology department. While the Health Board has secured the services of a team of external dermatology consultants, it highlights a serious staffing and recruitment issue that requires urgent attention.

Janet Finch-Saunders, the Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, is extremely concerned by these figures. She regularly makes representations to the Health Board on behalf of her constituents, many of whom face long waits and are unable to secure confirmed appointments.

Commenting on the urgent need for action, Janet said:

“I am calling for urgent measures to reduce the waiting lists for dermatology treatments. These delays, and the uncertainty around when treatment will begin, are causing my constituents severe concern and stress. This is completely unacceptable.

“While there has been a slight decrease in the total number of dermatology pathways waiting for treatment, from 12,037 the previous year, patient pathways waiting more than 36 weeks have actually increased to 5,550.

“This is completely shocking when compared to Trauma and Orthopaedics pathways, which saw a reduction in total pathways waiting for treatment from 17,110 in May 2024 to 16,986 in May 2025. Pathways waiting more than 36 weeks also dropped from 8,004 to 7,901 during the same period.

“This shows that dermatology services at Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board are severely falling behind other departments. Urgent action is needed to address this unacceptable situation.”

Mae cleifion sy'n aros 36 wythnos a mwy i ddechrau triniaeth dermatoleg wedi cynyddu o 5,516 ym mis Mai 2024 i 5,550 ym mis Mai 2025.

Mae Bwrdd Iechyd Prifysgol Betsi Cadwaladr wedi dweud mai'r swyddi gweigion yn yr adran dermatoleg sy'n gyfrifol am y rhestr aros a'r oedi hirfaith am driniaeth dermatoleg. Er bod y Bwrdd Iechyd wedi sicrhau gwasanaethau tîm o ymgynghorwyr dermatoleg allanol, mae'n tynnu sylw at broblem staffio a recriwtio difrifol sydd angen sylw brys.

Mae Janet Finch-Saunders, AS Aberconwy, yn bryderus iawn am y ffigurau hyn. Mae hi'n gwneud sylwadau rheolaidd i'r Bwrdd Iechyd ar ran ei hetholwyr, llawer ohonynt yn wynebu aros hir ac yn methu â sicrhau apwyntiadau wedi'u cadarnhau.

Wrth sôn am yr angen brys i weithredu, dywedodd Janet:

“Rwy'n galw am fesurau brys i leihau'r rhestrau aros ar gyfer triniaethau dermatoleg. Mae'r holl oedi a'r ansicrwydd ynghylch pryd fydd triniaeth yn dechrau, yn achosi poen meddwl a straen difrifol i'm hetholwyr. Mae'n gwbl annerbyniol.

“Er bod gostyngiad bach wedi bod yng nghyfanswm nifer y llwybrau dermatoleg sy'n aros am driniaeth, o 12,037 y flwyddyn flaenorol, mae cleifion sy'n aros mwy na 36 wythnos wedi cynyddu i 5,550.

“Mae hyn yn syfrdanol yn enwedig o’i gymharu â llwybrau Trawma ac Orthopedeg, a welodd ostyngiad yng nghyfanswm y llwybrau sy'n aros am driniaeth o 17,110 ym mis Mai 2024 i 16,986 ym mis Mai 2025. Gostwng wnaeth y llwybrau sy'n aros mwy na 36 wythnos hefyd o 8,004 i 7,901 yn ystod yr un cyfnod.

“Mae hyn yn dangos bod gwasanaethau dermatoleg ym Mwrdd Iechyd Prifysgol Betsi Cadwaladr ar ei hôl hi'n ddifrifol o gymharu ag adrannau eraill. Mae angen gweithredu ar frys i fynd i'r afael â'r sefyllfa annerbyniol hon.”
