The unemployment rate in Wales has risen by 1.4 percentage points over the last quarter, reaching 6.1%. This is significantly higher than the UK average of 5.1%, which itself rose by 0.4 percentage points over the same period.
Early estimates for November 2025 show that, at a UK level, there was a monthly reduction of 38,000 paid employees. These figures were reported by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) and HMRC.
This represents further bad news for both the UK and Welsh Governments, which have overseen consistent reductions in employment throughout 2025. Employment rates are now at their lowest levels since 2015.
Janet commented:
“Unfortunately, today’s figures come as no surprise. The UK Government has repeatedly increased taxes on businesses and working people, resulting in a stagnant economy and rising unemployment, particularly here in Wales.
“This was always the risk following Rachel Reeves’ two budgets, and these figures will cause real concern for working families and business owners alike.
“The Welsh Conservatives have set out clear plans to cut taxes and support businesses and workers, including scrapping business rates for small businesses and reducing income tax. These measures would help stimulate Wales’s struggling economy and help get people back into work”
Mae'r gyfradd ddiweithdra yng Nghymru wedi codi 1.4 pwynt canran dros y chwarter diwethaf, gan gyrraedd 6.1%. Mae hyn dipyn yn uwch na chyfartaledd y DU o 5.1%, a gododd 0.4 pwynt canran dros yr un cyfnod.
Mae amcangyfrifon cynnar ar gyfer mis Tachwedd 2025 yn dangos y bu gostyngiad misol o 38,000 o weithwyr cyflogedig ar lefel y DU. Cafodd y ffigurau eu cyhoeddi gan y Swyddfa Ystadegau Gwladol (ONS) a CThEF.
Mae hyn yn newyddion drwg pellach i Lywodraethau'r DU a Chymru, lle mae lefelau cyflogaeth wedi gostwng yn gyson gydol 2025. Mae cyfraddau cyflogaeth bellach ar eu lefelau isaf ers 2015.
Dywedodd Janet:
“Yn anffodus, nid yw'r ffigurau heddiw yn syndod. Mae Llywodraeth y DU wedi cynyddu trethi dro ar ôl tro ar fusnesau a phobl sy'n gweithio, gan arwain at economi segur a diweithdra cynyddol, yn enwedig yma yng Nghymru.
“Roedd hon wastad yn risg yn dilyn dwy gyllideb Rachel Reeves, a bydd y ffigurau hyn yn achosi pryder gwirioneddol i deuluoedd sy'n gweithio a pherchnogion busnes fel ei gilydd.
“Mae'r Ceidwadwyr Cymreig wedi nodi cynlluniau clir i dorri trethi a chefnogi busnesau a gweithwyr, gan gynnwys cael gwared ar ardrethi busnes i fusnesau bach a lleihau treth incwm. Byddai'r mesurau hyn yn helpu i ysgogi economi Cymru ac yn helpu i gael pobl yn ôl i waith”
