The Welsh Conservatives have urged the Welsh Government to follow an ultimatum put in place by the UK Government to tackle dangerous and unsafe building conditions.

Commenting on the news, Welsh Conservative Shadow Minister for Housing, Janet Finch-Saunders MS said:

Commenting on the announcement, Janet said:

“The UK Conservative Government continues to take decisive action on dangerous cladding while Labour ministers just sit on their hands.

“Every day that the Minister for Climate Change does nothing, is another day of distress, extra cost, and fear for residents living in high rise buildings.

“The Labour Government must follow the UK Conservative Government’s lead and tackle this crisis with the urgency that the people of Wales need.”

It comes as the UK Government has announced a six-week deadline to sign contracts to fix fire safety defects in their blocks or face a ban on developing, even for schemes with planning permission.

The Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC), has today published the contract that will give legal force to housebuilders’ pledge to fix ‘life-critical’ fire safety defects on their own blocks going back 30 years.

A total of 49 developers have signed the developer pledge and are expected to commit more than £2 billion on fixing defects to buildings that are above 11m

in height.
