The UK’s economic growth has fallen from 0.7% in the first quarter of 2025 to 0.1% in the third quarter. This is a significant decline that has caused concern among economists and political representatives alike.
Janet Finch-Saunders, the Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, commented on these figures:
“These latest figures, ahead of the UK Budget, are extremely disappointing, with the weakening of the economy also shown by the UK no longer outperforming the rest of the G7.
“While the Chancellor, Rachel Reeves, has failed to rule out the possibility of further tax increases in the Budget, it is clear that the UK and Welsh economies are already suffering as a result of the last increases. The tourism and hospitality sectors, in their tourism barometers, have reported that people have less disposable income to spend, and there has been a decline in job adverts being filled.
“The Chancellor and Prime Minister are causing residents and businesses genuine economic hardship. They need to stop, and use the next budget as an opportunity to undo the damaging policies announced last year, and replace them with pro-business, pro-growth, pro-jobs alternatives”.

Mae twf economaidd y DU wedi gostwng o 0.7% yn chwarter cyntaf 2025 i 0.1% yn y trydydd chwarter. Mae hwn yn ddirywiad sylweddol sydd wedi achosi pryder ymhlith economegwyr a chynrychiolwyr gwleidyddol fel ei gilydd.
Meddai Janet Finch-Saunders, yr Aelod o’r Senedd dros Aberconwy, am y ffigurau hyn:
"Mae'r ffigurau diweddaraf hyn, cyn Cyllideb y DU, yn hynod siomedig, gyda’r economi yn gwanhau ymhellach hefyd gan nad yw'r DU bellach yn perfformio'n well na gweddill y G7.
"Er bod y Canghellor, Rachel Reeves, wedi methu â diystyru'r posibilrwydd o gynnydd pellach mewn trethi yn y Gyllideb, mae'n amlwg bod economïau'r DU a Chymru eisoes yn dioddef o ganlyniad i'r cynnydd diwethaf. Mae'r sectorau twristiaeth a lletygarwch wedi adrodd bod gan bobl lai o incwm dros ben i'w wario, a gwelwyd llai o hysbysebion swyddi yn cael eu llenwi.
"Mae'r Canghellor a'r Prif Weinidog yn achosi caledi economaidd go iawn i drigolion a busnesau. Mae angen iddyn nhw roi’r gorau iddi, a defnyddio'r gyllideb nesaf fel cyfle i ddadwneud y polisïau niweidiol a gyhoeddwyd y llynedd, a'u disodli gyda dewisiadau amgen o blaid busnes, o blaid twf ac o blaid swyddi".
