Trefriw Quay Sees First Docking in Over 50 years / Docio yng Nghei Trefriw am y Tro Cyntaf ers 50 mlynedd a mwy

Janet Finch-Saunders, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy is delighted to see that, in an inspiring feat of skill and determination, Jake Pickstock and his friend William have successfully piloted a powered boat from Deganwy Quay down the picturesque Conwy Valley to Trefriw Quay & Harbour. 

This remarkable voyage, undertaken in September 2024, marks what is believed to be the first time in over 50 years that a powered boat has anchored at Trefriw Quay, a significant milestone for the region.

Jake and William embarked on this journey with a clear mission: to rediscover and revive the historic route that many consider a psychological barrier, particularly around Tal y Cafn. While the river has long been used for leisure and recreation, the team’s initiative sought to break with tradition and open the door to new possibilities for river-based tourism.

Commenting on the news Janet said:

“I am delighted to see this incredible adventure was an utter success. This pioneering venture is not just about nostalgia, but aims to reintroduce Trefriw Quay as a key stop for tourists, with plans to establish a welcoming café at the quay for visitors to rest and enjoy the scenic surroundings.

“The project holds the potential to become a vital part of Destination Conwy’s vision, enhancing the local tourism sector and creating much-needed jobs. 

“With more tourists coming up the river to experience the beauty of the Conwy Valley, Jake, William, and Warren’s ambition could contribute to a thriving, sustainable economy in the region.

“By promoting activities such as this and encouraging further discussions, we can ensure that Conwy remains a prime destination for visitors and a beacon of sustainable growth.

“Well done and bon voyage for the future!”

Mae'r daith ryfeddol hon, a wnaed ym mis Medi 2024, yn nodi'r hyn y mae pobl yn credu yw’r daith gyntaf mewn dros 50 mlynedd i gwch â modur angori yng Nghei Trefriw, ac mae hyn yn garreg filltir bwysig iawn i'r rhanbarth.

Dechreuodd Jake a William ar y daith hon gyda nod clir: ailddarganfod ac adfywio'r llwybr hanesyddol y mae llawer yn ei ystyried yn rhwystr seicolegol, yn enwedig o amgylch Tal y Cafn. Er bod yr afon wedi'i defnyddio ers amser maith ar gyfer hamdden ac adloniant, roedd mentergarwch y tîm yn ymdrech i symud oddi wrth y traddodiadol ac agor y drws i bosibiliadau newydd ar gyfer twristiaeth ar afonydd.

Wrth sôn am y newyddion dywedodd Janet:

“Rwy'n falch iawn o weld bod yr antur anhygoel hon wedi bod yn llwyddiant ysgubol. Nid mater o hiraeth yn unig yw'r fenter arloesol hon, ond ei nod yw ailgyflwyno Cei Trefriw fel cyrchfan allweddol i dwristiaid, gyda chynlluniau i sefydlu caffi croesawgar yn y cei i ymwelwyr gael gorffwys a mwynhau'r amgylchedd trawiadol.

“Mae gan y prosiect y potensial i ddod yn rhan hanfodol o weledigaeth Cyrchfan Conwy, gan wella'r sector twristiaeth lleol a chreu swyddi y mae mawr eu hangen.

“Gyda mwy o dwristiaid yn dod i fyny'r afon i brofi harddwch Dyffryn Conwy, gallai uchelgais Jake, William a Warren gyfrannu at economi ffyniannus a chynaliadwy yn y rhanbarth.

“Drwy hyrwyddo gweithgareddau fel hyn ac annog rhagor o drafodaethau, gallwn sicrhau bod Conwy yn parhau i fod yn gyrchfan gwych i ymwelwyr ac yn esiampl o dwf cynaliadwy.

“Da iawn chi a bon voyage i'r dyfodol!”
